The panoramic views from VistaRoyale are breathtaking, day or night.  The real views are even better than any picture (or video) can show:  the cruise ships moored in Great Bay are 400 feet below you; Philipsburg, the Dutch capital, is to your right; and the Caribbean Sea and the island of Saba are to your left.  You may never want to leave!  

Don't forget to bring your binoculars, camera and plenty of film!      

About the island:    Discovered by Columbus, Sint Maarten is administered by the Dutch in the south and Saint Martin is administered by the French in the north.  There is no border stop between the Dutch and French sides - you can pass back and forth freely.  Only a sign posted at the side of the road marks the border.  Half the fun is exploring the entire island.  Only 37 square miles in area, you're never more than 20 minutes by car from any other place on the island.  It is not like many of the other islands in the Caribbean - here, you can pretty safely go everywhere!  An all-inclusive resort is definitely unnecessary in St. Maarten/St. Martin; to spend all of your time at only one hotel, restaurant or beach and miss all the rest that this island has to offer would be a colossal waste!

There are 37 beaches around the island: all are open to the public free of charge and all are but a short ride from our place - the closest is 2 minutes away, the farthest is 20 minutes away.  Most will have umbrella and chair rentals and places to get lunch or drinks. Try a different one each day until you find your favorite. Orient Beach is the most active with extensive beach restaurants, bars and water sports facilities to the west of Pedro’s Beach Bar and a world class clothing optional beach to the east of Pedro's.  Coconut Grove, Baie Rouge, Long Bay and Pinel Isle are also excellent beaches on the French side.   On the Dutch side, Cupecoy Beach (also clothing optional) is very photogenic and Dawn Beach is very popular, too.

Pic Paradis, the tallest mountain on the island, is accessible from the French side.  Oyster Pond and Terres Basses (the low lands) boast many gorgeous villas.  Simpson Bay lagoon and Oyster Pond offer protected waters to flotillas of luxury yachts.  Saba, St. Barth’s and Anguilla are nearby islands that are but a short flight or boat-ride away (remember to take along your travel documents!).  Snorkeling, fishing and diving tours may be arranged in Philipsburg and Simpson Bay.  Finally, if you’re feeling lucky, there are casinos on the Dutch side.

We love St. Maarten/St. Martin and you will, too! Once people find St. Maarten/St. Martin, they tend to come back time and time again rather than go to other islands.
