The coastline is blessed with wonderful beaches and lovely scenic rocky coves some surrounded by dramatic cliffs.
Javea has three main areas, the Old Town, the Port and the Arenal Ė all very different.
The Old Town area is steeped in medieval history where you can walk through lots of narrow streets and small plazas (squares). Every Thursday the outdoor market is held in one of the squares. There is also an indoor market which is situated in a beautiful Neo Gothic building which lies next to the San Bartolome Gothic fortified church that dominates the centre of the town.
The Port is a lively bustling area with many shops, cafes, restaurants and bars where you can sit and watch the fishing boats bringing in their daily catch. This was originally a fishing community but is now visited by the many tourists where you can wander amongst the narrow streets of whitewashed fishermanís houses and newer modern buildings. The heart of the port houses the very splendid Church of our Lady of Loreto with a roof that imitates the hull of a ship. The modern Nautical Club is found at the marina where there are many water sports available.
The Arenal is a beautiful area of Javea with itís lovely spacious sandy beach that gently slopes into the warm Mediterranean Sea. Along the promenade are a number of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants where you can sit and lounge around and watch others enjoying the sun, sea and sand with the many water activities on offer. The many restaurants and bars surrounding the promenade offer a good variety of food to suit all tastes.
In the evening, stall holders set up all along the promenade offering a good variety of handmade crafts and artists producing fantastic drawings, in caricature or serious sittings or from photos produced on the spot Ė all excellent and good value so they are kept very busy.
There are also several scenic coves nearby. Grandella , with its crystal clear waters is a favourite for scuba diving and snorkelling as is Portichol. There is even a naturist beach at Ambolo.
Activities. Nearly every kind of watersport is available in Javea, and obviously this is not for everyone, so, for those who donít want to get their feet wet there is golf, bowls, tennis, cycling, horse riding and hiking to name but a few.
